What are personal protective equipment?
Our personal protective equipment is designed to ensure that people who practice a profession that are exposed to risks are safe to work and to protect vital parts of the body. For employers to work safely, employers must provide free personal protective equipment. In addition, employers must also provide proper information about the use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
Personal protective equipment is an addition to measures that must be taken to tackle the risks on the work floor in the base. Think about:
- Machines well maintained;
- Replace obsolete machines on time;
- Make technical provisions;
- Adjust method;
- Find other alternatives;
If these measures are not sufficient, the appropriate personal protective equipment must be available. The employer is obliged to offer this free of charge to his employees and must indicate where these should be used. This can be done, for example, by means of alerts. Employees are obliged to use the personal protective equipment and to participate in the information and instructions of the PPE.
Personal protective equipment can be divided into three categories:
- Personal protective equipment against low risks
PPEs that fall into this category are means that provide protection without tools or expertise. Think of rainwear, sunglasses or simple garden gloves. These help against minor and superficial injuries and are provided with CE self-certification.
- Personal protective equipment against medium risks
The PPE in this category is provided with certification issued by a competent organization. These agents must comply with directives and regulations described in accordance with EC Directive 89 / 686 / EEC. PPEs that fall into this category are safety helmets and goggles.
- Personal protective equipment against high risks
This includes more complex PPEs, which are subject to extra requirements in comparison with PPEs from the second category. The products that protect against high risks must meet the EC quality assurance system and must be certified by a competent organization. Also PPE in this category must be maintained, for which compulsory training can be followed. PPEs that fall into this category are for example harness belt, which protects you from falling from a great height.
All our personal protective equipment meets the correct and matching (EN) standards. These are described in the relevant category.
