What are personal protective equipment?
Our personal protective equipment is there to help people who work in a profession that involves risks work safely and to protect vital parts of the body. In order for employees to work safely, employers must make personal protective equipment available free of charge. In addition, employers must also provide good information about the use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
Personal protective equipment is in addition to measures that must be taken to basically address the risks in the workplace. Think about:

If these measures are not sufficient, the appropriate personal protective equipment must be available. The employer is obliged to offer this free of charge to his employees and must indicate where these should be used. This can be done, for example, by means of alerts. Employees are obliged to use personal protective equipment and to take part in the information and instructions of the PPE.
Personal protective equipment can be divided into three categories:
- Personal protective equipment against low risks
PPE that falls into this category are products that provide protection without tools or expertise. Think of rain gear, sunglasses or simple garden gloves. These help against minor and superficial injuries and are CE self-certified.
- Personal protective equipment against medium risks
The PPE in this category is provided with a certification issued by a competent organization. These products must comply with directives and provisions described according to the EC Directive 89/686 / EEC. PPE that falls into this category are safety helmets and goggles.
- Personal protective equipment against high risks
This includes more complex PPE, with additional requirements compared to PPE from the second category. Means protecting against high risks must comply with the EC recognized quality assurance system and be certified by a competent organization. PPE in this category must also be compulsorily maintained, for which a compulsory training is required. For example, PPE that falls into this category harness belt, which protects you from falling from a great height.
